Appointment Basics
There are three main types of appointments that you may be required to make in order to receive your WIC food instruments.
Recertification or Certification appointments are required yearly for infants, children, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and postpartum non-breastfeeding women. For these appointments, you will be required to bring documentation that will help to determine your eligibility for WIC services. Generally these appointments can take up to 2-3 hours.
Nutrition or Follow-up Appointments are scheduled between certification, recertification, or mid-year assessment appointments. Generally these appointments may take about half of the time that your certification visit would normally take. Some of these appointments require that only caregiver be present, others require that the participant and caregiver be present. If you have questions about who needs to be present, you can check your appointment reminder card, or check with the WIC office when you make your appointment.
A mid-certification assessment is done 5-7 months after your recertification or certification appointment is done. A child/infant should be present for these appointments for the nutritionist to take their weight and height/length.
In order to provide timely and efficient services to all WIC participants we encourage everyone to arrive on time for their appointment. We understand that sometimes there may be situations beyond your control, like a flat tire, or other emergency that may make it very difficult to arrive on time. Individuals who show up later than 15 minutes after their scheduled appointment will most likely need to reschedule. Sometimes, we are able to work late arrivals into our schedule, but this generally leaves other participants, who arrived on time, to wait longer for their appointment.
It is very much appreciated when WIC participants call to cancel or reschedule their appointment when they are unable to make a scheduled appointment. This allows other participants the opportunity to schedule a much needed appointment for the day.
The Official WIC program is available to low to moderate income pregnant women, recently delivered women, breastfeeding women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are at nutrition risk. Fathers can also bring their children to apply for WIC. You may apply for WIC if you are working or unemployed. Check the Income Guidelines Table to see if you are eligible for WIC. This website was created for women looking for WIC information and locations. We are also working towards adding other locations and services that may help out women.
