The WIC Supplemental Nutrition Program fulfills the Community Action mission by providing nutritious foods and nutrition education to help low-income households provide healthy foods for pregnant, breastfeeding women, babies and small children. Children start school with improved ability to learn. Women learn how to provide healthy foods for their families. WIC also provides referrals to other helpful services. WIC empowers families to become self-sufficient by assisting them at a crucial time in their lives.
The WIC Program helps give children a healthy start for life with:
$40 to $50 in healthy foods each month
Information on children's growth and nutrition
Tips and assistance for a successful breastfeeding experience
    Community information and individualized referrals
    Friendly, caring services
Community Action's WIC Program serves families on a tight budget, unemployed families, and families receiving TANF. Services are provided in Anacortes and Mount Vernon. Community Action also administers a WIC program for Naval Air Station Whidbey Island. In all, our WIC program serves nearly 6,000 clients each year.
Pregnant women, breastfeeding women, infants, and children to age 5 are encouraged to apply.
