Office Information:

Supporting women, infants, children, and families, the WIC Program is dedicated to aiding low-income families, new mothers (both breastfeeding and non-breastfeeding), and infants and children up to age 5 facing nutritional risks. The program achieves this by offering crucial nutrition counseling, promoting and supporting breastfeeding, and providing various resources.

WIC resources encompass supplemental food, referrals to healthcare services, nutrition education, and assistance with breastfeeding. The WIC Program, located in both the East End of Bridgeport and the city of Stamford, offers a range of services, including one-on-one consultations with nutritionists or trained professionals, breastfeeding support, opportunities for families to connect and exchange information, referrals to healthcare and social service programs, and the issuance of an eWIC card for purchasing healthy food for individuals and their children.

WIC services are available to the following individuals and families:

  1. Pregnant individuals, supporting the pregnancy and up to 6 weeks after birth or the conclusion of pregnancy.
  2. Breastfeeding individuals, up to the infant's first birthday.
  3. Postpartum individuals, up to 6 months after the birth of an infant or the conclusion of pregnancy.
  4. Infants, up to their first birthday. WIC serves 45% of all infants born in the United States.
  5. Children up to their fifth birthday (with applications accepted from fathers, grandparents, foster parents, or other guardians).

Eligibility for WIC services requires meeting income guidelines set at or below 185% of the federal poverty income limit.

Other eligibility criteria include completing a nutrition assessment with WIC staff, residing in Connecticut (U.S. citizenship not mandatory, and WIC does not require proof of citizenship or immigration status), and the assurance that participation in WIC will not impact immigration or naturalization status.

The Official WIC program is available to low to moderate income pregnant women, recently delivered women, breastfeeding women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are at nutrition risk. Fathers can also bring their children to apply for WIC. You may apply for WIC if you are working or unemployed. Check the Income Guidelines Table to see if you are eligible for WIC. This website was created for women looking for WIC information and locations. We are also working towards adding other locations and services that may help out women.

Hi. I have a question. I just found out that I am pregnant and I am interested in applying for wic. I have a two year old son as well. My question is, will I be able to apply even though I don’t have a Connecticut state Id though I have been living in Danbury Connecticut for the past 3 years. My kids and I have husky insurance. What are the requirements in order for me to get it? My husband is currently unemployed and so am I. So I’m really trying to get wic and food stamps so we can have food in the house while he looks for a job. Please let me know what I can do.
