The Michigan Women, Infants & Children (WIC) program provides supplemental nutritious food packages, breastfeeding support, and health care referrals to eligible pregnant women, new mothers, and young children. Here are the key details:

Eligibility:
Income: Must meet income guidelines based on household size and income. Generally, income at or below 185% of the federal poverty level is considered eligible.
    Pregnancy Status: Pregnant women.
Postpartum Status: New mothers up to 6 months postpartum.
Breastfeeding Status: Breastfeeding mothers up to 1 year postpartum.
Infants: Infants up to 1 year old.
Children: Children up to 5 years old.

Benefits:

Nutritious food packages: These packages contain specific foods rich in nutrients like iron, calcium, vitamin C, and protein, tailored to the needs of each participant. Examples include milk, cheese, eggs, fruits, vegetables, cereal, and infant formula.
Breastfeeding support: WIC provides breastfeeding education and counseling, including lactation consultants, to encourage and support mothers who choose to breastfeed.
Health care referrals: WIC can connect participants with healthcare providers for well-child checks, immunizations, and other preventive care services.
Nutrition education: WIC offers nutrition education classes on healthy eating habits for mothers and children.

Project FRESH: Michigan WIC also offers Project FRESH, which provides vouchers for purchasing fresh fruits and vegetables at farmers markets.
WIC EBT: Some WIC benefits are now provided through Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards, similar to debit cards, for easier purchasing of approved WIC foods at authorized grocery stores.

Documentation needed: Proof of income, proof of identity, proof of pregnancy or breastfeeding (if applicable), and child's birth certificate (if applicable).

The Official WIC program is available to low to moderate income pregnant women, recently delivered women, breastfeeding women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are at nutrition risk. Fathers can also bring their children to apply for WIC. You may apply for WIC if you are working or unemployed. Check the Income Guidelines Table to see if you are eligible for WIC. This website was created for women looking for WIC information and locations. We are also working towards adding other locations and services that may help out women.
